Putting Library Pockets to Good Use!

This weekend I found a new Linky that I can't wait to be part of. It's a marvelous idea from Kindergarten Dragons:

What better opportunity than this to blog about something I find extremely useful. If you had a chance to read some of my previous posts, you might already know that I love Library Pockets. I use them constantly to make centers, and even as money holders for our "Mustang Bucks" (PBIS money). I bought these at the dollar store, but I have been buying some from Amazon as well.

One trick however that I want to share with you, is that you have to laminate them! or they won't last. How do you do that? Easy, follow these simple steps, and you will have laminated library pockets that will last and last.

Cut around the laminated envelope. Do not cut too close, or the lamination will start to peel off with heavy use.

With a push pin, trace the opening carefully. Basically you are using the pointy end to cut the lamination. Don't push too hard though!

Once you have a small opening, you can insert the push pin and push from side to side to make it bigger.

Now your library pockets are ready to last!

This is how I'm using my library pockets:

I made a Literacy center to practice CVC Words

I also made a Word Family literacy center for winter:

I also use them for a Math Center activity:

Do you have another idea for using library pockets?

I hope you enjoyed reading, thank you for stopping by!

  3. I LOVED reading your Spotlight Post!!! I am in awe of all the different ways you have found to use the library pockets!! Like you, I too use them to hold my students' 'Golden Tickets', which is part of our school's PBIS program. I always laminate them and hang them inside their lockers so they can store their Tickets until they are able to spend them. I love all the center activities you were able to create using the pockets! What an incredibly great idea!
Thank you so very much for linking up, I'm so so glad you did!! I really learned a lot from your post, and I can't wait to continue reading your awesome Spotlights!!!

  4. I adore your CVC pockets! It's instant directionality disguised like a game. Our local education supply store went out of business this summer (so sad!) but they had a great sale, and I stocked up on library pockets of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Now I have lots of new ideas to use them, thanks to your great post!
